Aloha Parents,
The 6th graders will be participating in the Bike Education program is sponsored by the Honolulu Bicycling League. You can learn more about this program at www.hbl.org and click on the, 'Education" tab and then click on the "Youth BikeEd" link. While this program is designed for 4th graders across the state, all my 4th - 6th grades classes will participate in a total of 2 class periods.
The students will learn the: proper use of the helmet, safety vest, 6 point bicycle safety check, safe riding techniques, go on a bike ride on and around campus, and much more. If your child doesn't know how to ride a bike, not to worry. They will learn with one of the 4 instructors provided on campus. However, I do recommend that you work with your child on this wonderful lifestyle activity either after school or on the weekends at your local park or safe neighborhood. This will help improve skill-fitness components and develop a lifelong healthy lifestyle.
The HBL also provides free classes as well with more information under the education link on their website.
Here are the dates for our Bike Education classes:
4th Grade - 2/17 4A & 4B only, 4/7 4C & 4D only, 4/27 all classes
5th Grade - 11/24 and 1/20
6th Grade - 2/17 6A & 6B only, 3/30 all classes, 4/7 6C & 6D only
